Unbelievable? Believe it! You can now get free fuel in South Africa, but only if you buy a Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge in the months of June and July.
With news that Chrysler in the US was allowing its new buyers to cap their fuel prices at $2.99 per gallon for three years, Chrysler SA decided to go one better.
Anybody who buys a new Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge before the end of July will receive a fuel card allowing free fuel covering up to 14 000 km until 31 December 2008.
The fuel price is calculated on the price as at 8 June and the sum allowed will differ between models. Monetary values have been calculated on the combined fuel consumption for the different models at an average of 2 000 km per month.
Was it mandated by Chrysler in the US?
"Not at all," Richard Sloman, public relations manager for Chrysler SA told Wheels24.
"We just thought it would be interesting to offer new owners free fuel for the remainder of the year."
Furthermore, cashing in on any of Chrysler SA's existing special offers does not preclude you from the fuel offer.
"The offer applies to most ranges, with the exception of Wrangler, Sebring Convertible, Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee SRT8."
The 300C SRT8 is included, though. "SRT8 is selling in such small volumes at the moment it didn't make any sense to exclude it from the programme. And with the way people are driving in the current fuel situation, we think that even with free fuel, people will still be a lot more careful."
