While everybody is shouting 'electric is the way' car-buyers in the US are voting with their wallets - and its 'Nay!'
Ford sold 38 electric Focus units in July 2012, fewer than half those sold in June, the Detroit News has reported. The automaker reported only 135 Focus EV sales for the year - none of them in February, March or April.
The Focus EV, however, is only sold in New Jersey, New York and California.

Ford also said hybrid sales were way down: 10 648 in the first seven months of 2012, 27 100 through 2011, and automakers generally in the US are having mixed sales results with EV's.
Nissan’s Leaf is the biggest seller in the US but continued to struggle in July and is unlikely to achieve its 20 000 target for 2012 there. The DetNews said 395 were sold in July (down 58% over July 2011) and 3543 for the year, down 26.3%.
General Motors reports more success with its Volt; they rose from 125 in July 2011 to 1849 in July 2012 on the back of 1760 sales in June. 10 666 were sold in the first seven months of 2012, up almost threefold on 2011. GM has taken flak for saying it would sell 10 000 Volts in 2011 yet managed only 7600.; perhaps having learned a lesson the automaker abandoned its US sales forecast of 45 000 for 2012, saying it would "match supply to demand".
Toyota’s new plug-in electric Prius allows longer battery-only driving than the standard Prius;688 were sold in the US in July though the standard Prius remains the US's best-selling hybrid.
