Bangle planning return to Fiat?

Last year the automotive design world lost an icon when Bangle left his position as BMW design chief Italian farm in the Piemonte hills.

Bangle had been with BMW since 1992 and was responsible for controversial yet daring designs. He left the company due to irreconcilable differences concerning the design direction of the new Megacity electric car.

A talent as well honed as Bangle’s does not tolerate idleness and the Italian rumour mill is going into overdrive that he is close to teaming up with erstwhile employer Fiat.

Bangle designed at Fiat from 1985 until his departure for BMW towards the end of 1991. The striking Fiat Coupe was perhaps his best work during this period.

Fiat’s current design is hardly in need of creative input yet the company’s Chrysler brand could do with some refining and direction, especially as many of the Fiat models expected to be deployed stateside will carry the Chrysler nameplate. Bangle’s unique talents could be employed very usefully in the exercise of refining Italian style to American tastes.
