Hijackers steal Free State ambulance

BLOEMFONTEIN, Free State - A Free State government ambulance was stolen after the driver and his friends were held up by gunmen in Wepener, report police.

Sergeant Yanga Ngcukana said that the driver visited a colleague at his house in Wepener on 7.30pm.

HELD HOSTAGE

Ngcukana added: "Three men followed the 35-year-old driver into the colleague's house and demanded the ambulance's keys. One robber left but two remained behind.

"The driver and other occupants of the house were held hostage in one room for about 30 minutes."

According to the police, the two men left after receiving a phone call, allegedly from the man outside, they then stole the ambulance and the driver's cellphone.

The driver was unharmed though no arrests had been made.
