Cape Town - The Toyota Hilux kicked off where it left 2017 as the best-selling bakkie in South Africa. Despite a difficult month overall, the Hilux again managed to beat the Ford Ranger to the top of the sales charts in empathic fashion to clinch the deal.
It amassed a total sales figure of 2695 units in January 2018; more than 400 units clear of the second-placed Ranger. However, the Hilux could not continue its feat as the best-selling vehicle overall after losing out to the Volkswagen Polo Vivo (2862 units).
Ranger goes 2nd
With a sales figure of 2269 units the Ford Ranger managed to keep its position as the second-best selling bakkie in SA. The Hilux and Ranger were the only bakkies to have exceeded the 2000-mark, with the Nissan NP200 (1585 units) coming as close as possible. The Isuzu KB, in fourth place, found 1200 new owners, almost 50% more than the Nissan NP300/Hardbody in fifth place.
In sixth place the Toyota Land Cruiser 200 assured 238 buyers of its credentials and the Mahindra Scorpio pik-up rolled in the numbers with a good figure of 218 units in seventh place. The
Volkswagen Amarok (203 units), Nissan Navara (100 units), and Mahindra Bolero (69 units) round out the top ten.
Chevrolet withdrew completely from the South African market, hence the Ute half-tonner not featuring in this list.
