Cape Town - Though the new Volkswagen Polo Vivo is due to arrive in the next couple of weeks, it did very little to hinder the outgoing model from showing what a sales de force it’s been since 2010.
The Vivo accumulated a sales figure of 2862 units to not only make it the top-selling passenger car for January 2018, but also the top-selling vehicle overall.
Its nearest sales rival for the past month, the Toyota Corolla/Auris/Quest managed a sales sum of 2196 units.
Old Polo stumbles
On 1519 units the Toyota Etios slots into third place, ahead of its big brother, the Toyota Fortuner. The Fortuner again led the way for SUV sales with a whopping 1318 units. Hyundai’s little
Grandi10 made a big splash in fifth place with 1134 units sold, ahead of the outgoing Volkswagen Polo (1027 units).
The Toyota Rav4 also had no slack in its sales charge for the month, with 871 units leaving showroom floors. The Volkswagen Golf sneaked onto the chart when 805 units found new owners, ahead of another small car, the Kia Picanto, on 793 units.
Toyota’s Avanza takes slot number ten on 665 units.
