Cape Town - According to an annual global traffic index produced by satnav specialist TomTom, Cape Town surpassed Johannesburg as the most congested city in South Africa in 2013. It's hung out onto the infamous title ever since.

As bleak as congestion is in SA it's a lot worse in many places around the world.

The cool guys at RegTransfers UK, using data from Inrix Global Traffic Scorecard, created an interactive map of the world’s most congested cities.

The report looks at average hours spent in congestion for 1064 cities in 38 countries, as well as the percentage of time spent in traffic.

SA makes the list

Cape Town comes in at #28 in the world with 49.1 hours spent in congested traffic each year, while Johannesburg ranks in at #33 with 46.8 hours spend in traffic per year.
