Johannesburg - According to 2016/17 crime stats by the SAPS, a total of 16 717 hijackings and 53 307 cars have been stolen between April 2016 and March 2017.

SAPS reports a 14.5% increase in hijacking.

Vehicle tracking specialist  Pro-Active South Africa believes in creating safer roads and has highlighted the four biggest cities' hotspots to create awareness with motorists.

Pro-Active SA's Ryno Schutte says: "When planning your route during the Festive Season and driving through these areas indicated, remaining vigilant can potentially hinder you or your family from becoming a victim."
