BUYING A USED CAR: Searching for a used vehicle can be overwhelming. Here's what you should you know before buying a second hand car. Image: iStock

Cape Town - Everybody loves that new car smell but a second-hand car can offer better value, while leaving your wallet intact, if you follow a few simple steps.

Used cars are also likely to attract a much lower insurance premium than new cars, and feature-for-feature, you can usually get more bang for your buck.

The guys at Rippah.com created a great guide for buying a used car.

Rippah said: "Buying a used car can be a minefield. You can either get it right or end up with a mobile scrap. Cars can be overwhelming, especially if you’re thinking about buying your first car.
