Cape Town - Many motorists are under the impression that obtaining a driver’s licence is a once-off bit of admin but it is in fact a lifetime commitment.
The fact is, for motorists to continue driving legally on our roads, driver’s licences must be renewed every five years.
Law for All's Managing Director, Jackie Nagtegaal, said: "While it is a bit of an inconvenience to renew your driver’s licence, it is essential to go through the renewal process because driving with an expired permit is basically the same as driving without a licence altogether. It could lead to fines and will undoubtedly be detrimental in the case of a car accident.
"Not to mention, insurance companies won’t cover motorists driving with an expired licence."
