Germany - The Volkswagen Polo Vivo is South Africa's best-selling passenger car, while the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger battle it out for the best local bakkie title.
SA's best-selling cars, bakkies
Throughout 2016, Wheels24 has monitored sales figures and grouped them into four categories: passenger cars, bakkies, sports cars, and luxury SUVs. The Polo Vivo was the best-selling passenger car in 2016, selling a massive 28 830 units. And, it still proved SA's favourite earlier in March 2017 as the best-selling car in the market.

The Vivo's big brother, the Polo, sold the second most cars (23 279). Toyota is placed third and fourth with its Corolla/Auris/Quest (17 499) and Etios hatchback (12 768).
Despite the Ford Ranger topping the sales charts near the end of 2016, the Toyota Hilux was the year's best-selling vehicle with 35 428 units. Not only was the Hilux the best-selling bakkie, it was also the single biggest-selling vehicle overall!

World's favourite cars
The guys at Racechip UK put together an awesome infographic based on global data for most popular vehicles. The infographic also focuses on the most popular brands in Europe.
