Cape Town - Like all preceding months in 2017, the Volkswagen Polo Vivo topped the final month of the year as the leading and best-selling passenger car.

With a total sales figure of 1230 units, the Polo Vivo managed to secure the top spot ahead of the Toyota Corolla/Auris/Quest. In what is a bit of a shock, the 1230 units registered by the Vivo is by far the lowest registered number for the year for South Africa's top selling passenger car.

But it does give an indication of the overall sales registered by all manufacturers.

Kwid makes a splash

The Corolla/Auris/Quest managed to wrestle its way to second position after securing a sales figure of 1140 units. But it is the Renault Kwid that's responsible for the biggest surprise. With 1120 buyers taking ownership of their new Kwid, the figure is this Renault's highest figure registered for the year.

In fourth place is the Toyota Fortuner (1108 units), ahead of the regular second-spot challenger, the Volkswagen Polo (1028 units). In sixth place is the Toyota Etios (954 units), the first vehicle on th list to dip under the 1000-mark.

The Ford EcoSport found 892 new owners in seventh place, followed by the Toyota Rav4 on 791 units. The Kia Picanto sits pretty in ninth place (656 units), ahead of the Ford Everest, which sold  559 units.
