Bakkie sales: Hilux ends year on a high

accreditation

Cape Town - After a tough battle with the Ford Ranger, the Toyota Hilux secured the top spot as the best-selling bakkie for December 2017.

Not only was the Hilux South Africa's best-selling bakkie for December, it was also the top selling bakkie for 2017. And with 3382 units sold in the last month of 2017, the Hilux semented its position of the log.

Strong challenge

But try as it might, the Ranger just could not put a stop to South Africans' love affair with the Hilux. As the second-best selling bakkie in our country, the Ranger managed to secure a sales figure of 2681 units at the end of December 2017.

This is someway clear of the third-placed Nissan NP200, which managed to find 1040 new owners. The NP200's bigger brother, the Nissan NP300/Hardbody sold a very respectable 964 new bakkies, ahead of another favourite, the Isuzu KB (903 units) in fifth place.

The Volkswagen Amarok continued its solid run inside the top ten, selling a commendable 315 new bakkies. In seventh place is the Nissan Navara on 260 units, followed by the Toyota Land Cruiser pick-up on 197 units.

The new Mahindra Scorpio pik-up slips into the ninth spot on 94 units, followed by the Mazda BT-50 (56 units).
