Earlier in 2011 we reported on Subaru’s Shrek-like concept wagon, unveiled in concept form at the Shangai auto show in April.
Now the Japanese automaker has announced its XV crossover will make its global debut at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show in September.
The production XV doesn't differ much from the concept and Subaru hopes it will bring something fresh to the crossover SUV market.
Power comes from two-litre engine and drive is sent to all four wheels, a staple with most Subarus. Overall, its comes across more SUV than crossover, especially when viewed in profile.
EYESIGHT SYSTEM
Inside, the XV is a bizarre mix of contemporary and futuristic Subaru cabin design.
The steering wheel is lifted off Subaru’s current models and though the parking brake is decidedly backward if you consider the current Legacy (launched in 2010) has a push-pull electrically actuated parking brake.
On the technological side, the XV’s features the brands’ "EyeSight" system – a collection of cameras relaying images captured while the car is moving.
The Subaru XV is due to be launched globally early in 2012, though there’s no word yet from Subaru as to whether the new model will be headed for our shores.
