World's prettiest car a Corsa?

If you think Alfa-Romeo’s 8C Competizione is the best looking car in the world, perhaps it’s time to reconsider something, well, more German yet still sporting the legendary Milanese badge. Confused?

Well, Martin Kapp is an obsessive Alfa Romeo collector and the latest addition to the German’s fantasy garage is an absolutely sinfully pretty TZ3 Corsa.

One of the advantages of being stupidly wealthy is the privilege of contacting European design consultancies and ordering up a one-off car for your private collection. Obviously this is a rather expensive exercise, yet in terms of exclusivity and customer satisfaction it promises an unmatched ownership experience.

For the plebeian petrolheads of the world these one-off models hold the allure (and frustration) of representing everything one would like to see in an actual production car model portfolio.

Front view cues classic Alfa racing heritage. The TZ3 Corsa makes most modern supercars appears rather inelegant.

Proper heritage

The car was commissioned by Kapp as an ode to nearly a century of collaboration between Scuderia Ferrari, Alfa Corse, Autodelta, and Scuderia Zagato. As an aside TZ3 Corsa is meant to celebrate 100 years of Alfa Romeo excellence too. We hardly think it's a failure on either count.

If you’re an unrehabilitated Alfista you’ll remember the legendary TZ1 and TZ2 racing cars of the 1960s with their characteristic breadvan proportions.

Kapp’s TZ3 Corsa looks much the same. Only an authentic Italian design consultancy could possibly execute a homage to Alfa Romeo's heritage with such aplomb.

Rounded flanks and blunt rear show off the best of Zagato's imagination. Overtaking presence guaranteed.

Supercar specifications

The TZ3 Corsa’s classic surfacing was conceptualised and executed by Zagato and sporting long-nose/stubby rear proportions it looks fantastic. With aluminium bodywork and a composite/tubular frame chassis Zagato managed to keep the TZ3 Corsa’s kerb mass well under 1t (850kg in fact).

Powering this rather special Alfa is a 4.2l dry-sump V8 producing 308kW and driving the rear wheels via six-speed sequential transmission.

Performance figures tally a top speed of 300km/h and a 0-100km/h benchmark sprint of 3.5 seconds. Mere statistics pale in the presence of the TZ3 Corsa’s delicate detailing though.

Factor in the all-wheel independent Öhlins pushrod suspension and the TZ3 Corsa’s low mass and Herr Kapp is sure to have a very rewarding drive each time he takes his one-off Alfa special to a track day.

Unsurprisingly, the TZ3 Corsa won the concept car honours at this year's Villa D'Este Concorso d'Eleganza concourse event held at Lake Como last weekend.

Nobody knows how much the TZ3 Corsa required to fund from conception to final execution. We're sure it's a sickening amount of cash. Take one look through the TZ3 gallery and tell yourself it was not worth it though...
