Why you mustn't drive and text

Driving while texting is irresponsible. Even taking your eyes off the road for mere seconds could (and often does) result in tragic consequences. YouTube user Sean Symons managed to capture a driver texting - with a predictably horrific outcome - while driving..

In the shocking video a driver is shown drifting on to the road shoulder and eventually into oncoming traffic.

Symons continues to film even as the offending driver becomes progressively worse. The driver eventually hits a road barrier which causes the vehicle to swerve into the path of another vehicle resulting in a collision. The driver then veers off-road and ends up in a field adjacent to the road.

It’s unclear whether anybody was injured but Symons does stop, possibly to film the aftermath.

Symons states on his YouTube channel that the driver was a teenager texting while driving but, judging from the way he was drifting across the road, we could assume he might have been drunk.

“I was following a teen that was texting. I called the police then followed him and videotaped him. He hit two cars... texting and driving is not worth it,” said Symons.

The video was handed to the police.

It’s probably just as irresponsible to text and drive as it is to film while driving, though the cameraman would at least be looking at the road. We’re also wondering why he didn’t intervene by attracting the driver’s attention?
