EASILY AVOIDABLE ACCIDENT: The driver above shows the dangers of speeding as he/she is unable to bring their vehicle to a stop in time and collides with another vehicle at a traffic light.
CAPE TOWN - In December 2011, the Western Cape's Safely Home campaign launched a series of videos showing crashes and road accidents in the province. The aim of the campaign was to highlight the dangers of reckless driving in the Cape by showing CCTV footage of severe accidents
In September 2012 the Cape Transport and Public Works launched its next series of videos as part of its government viral safety campaign.
According to Western Cape transport minister Robin Carlisle, the videos are the latest instalment of an on-going campaign to educate the public on the violence behind crashes caused by irresponsible and reckless road use.
We now have the latest videos and they're quite an eye-opener for complacent drivers in the province and are not for sensitive viewers or those under the age of 18.

In this three-part video you can see three instances of reckless behaviour on our roads - the first an all too common occurence on our roads - a vehicle attempting to ignore a red traffic light.
The vehicle fails to come to a stop and collides with a vehicle ahead waiting for the lights to change. The second part of the video shows another common accident - a driver attempts to cross an intersection but fails to do so safely and collides with oncoming traffic.
The third part shows negligent behaviour by a truck driver as the vehicle crashes into a bridge support. The truck can be seen travelling along the emergency lane on the far left (right on the video) with ample space to its right. It's bizarre that the driver crashed into the bridge support and barrier despite the truck's relative slow speed. A cellphone involved, perhaps...?
