Voting booth: SA Car of the Year

A readers' poll by Wheels24 about which vehicle should be the 2012 South African Car of the Year has so far attracted a whopping 11 000 votes - one  of our most successful polls yet.

Before the poll, we reported on the 10 SA Guild of Motoring Journalists' finalists for the South Africa's Car of the Year nominees and linked readers to Wheels24 articles about the cars. To date we have received nearly 11 000 votes.

HERE'S HOW THEY SCORED...

For the first few weeks of our poll the new Hyundai new Elantra dominate the voting with 2310 votes. Then the Ford Focus inched it's way up in popularity to the top of our CoTY poll with 2506 votes.

Perhaps surprisingly Alfa Romeo Giulietta's has claimed third place with 1458 votes, just a head of Volkswagen's Jetta in fourth with 1393 votes.

The fifth most popular vehicle in our poll is Audi's A6 (914 votes) followed by the  Mercedes-Benz SLK (686 votes) and Suzuki's Kizashi in sixth and seventh place respectively.

How it all pans out after the guild judges do their job early in 2012 remains to be seen - but the public, apparently, has a very strong view on the subject. Will the "experts" overrule our readers? We'll see!
