Video: Packing a Mazda in a van

Buying a new car can be pretty expensive, especially when you’re having to import it from another country.

You could try to save some cash by driving it yourself, but you’ll probably rack up a hefty fuel bill. Two Kazakhstani car buyers came up with a novel (read - crazy) solution to their vehicle transport dilemma: Why not just stuff the car in the back of a panel van?

German authorities stopped a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter panel van on the A1 autobahn after spotting that the rear doors weren’t quite closed. They were baffled by its contents: a Mazda 626 sedan.

VEHICLE TETRIS

Two men from Kazakhstan had driven to Germany after buying the sedan with the intention of driving their newly purchased Mazda back home.

Rather than towing the vehicle, they decided they could save on fuel by stuffing the sedan in the rear of their panel van. After playing vehicular Tetris and managing to hoist the sedan into the back of their ride, the two men proceeded on the journey!

Authorities found that the bonnet of the Mazda touched the dash…this couldn’t have made for a comfortable ride. At least they took precautions to prevent scratches to the sedan, by placing a mattress on the floor where the front passenger would sit.

German police pulled them over claiming that the vehicle was overloaded and not sufficiently packed. Maybe someone could also point out that one of them could, you know, have driven the vehicle back home.

Watch the video below. (It's in German but you get a clear view of the stuffed vehicle):
