GREASE LIGHTNING Even Hollywood's elite can fall prey to crime. John Travolta's classic Merc Roadster (above) was stolen from outside of a Jaguar showrom.
Los Angeles - Actor John Travolta fell victim to opportunistic thieves who made off with his classic Mercedes-Benz 280SL Roadster while he was visiting a Jaguar dealer.
Travolta parked the car in Santa Monica and, when he returned 10 minutes later, the car was gone. Police thought the thieves could have followed the star of 'Grease' and 'Urban Cowboys' - or just chanced on the $35 000 car.
CAR ENTHUSIAST
The Merc was apparently worth around that figure but Travolta said: "It is my understanding that it could be worth more."
Travolta has long been a car enthusiast; he's also a Boeing 747 pilot and airline owner and his true passion is for planes.
"I had to content myself with cars before I could ever contemplate owning a plane," he said. "My first, in 1974, was a 1962 Oldsmobile. I had some minor TV work, got paid and wanted to get on the road. It was a small step to what I wanted to achieve."
Travolta's car collection includes a number of classic models, including a Rolls-Royce, Jaguar XJ6 and his beloved Thuderbirds.
