Top 10 worst car names

2012-05-15 08:59

Over the past 120 years of vehicle production almost as many terrible car names as horrible cars have made their way out on to our roads. Unsurprisingly having a horrible name is often a clear indicator of a bad car.

According to the UK's Daily Mail, Opel/Vauxhall have named their new two-door mini hatchback, codenamed Junior, as the Adam. The vehicle's straightforward name will leave many drivers bemused, the moniker will have more of a resonance with German fans of the brand.

After all, Adam pays homage to the German automaker's founder, Adam Opel.

As far as uninspired car names go, Opel's Adam is up there with Ford's Ka and Nissan Almera, the Mail says. We wonder if sales staff with introduce female customers to the car with that famous palindrome: 'Madam I'm Adam'.

If Opel is paying homeage to the founder of the company they should have called the new opc the Adam Opc. Not a small mini hatchback. Its like Ford calling the Ka the Henry.

Nissan Juke. Especially after their whole Micra advertising campaign where Nissan made up words that were a combination of two other words. Sorry, but as soon as I saw Juke for the first time, the combo that immediately sprang to mind was Joke + Puke. Not my fault - Nissan did it all themselves...

(Alan2) Just love the Isuzu Giga Light Dump. Same sort of bowel problems as the Ford Ka(k). Overseas there was also the Daihatsu D-bag (was it short for douche bag?) And GM had to change the Chevy Nova name in Spanish speaking countries, because No va means 'no go'. About right.

      Mike Bundy - 2013-07-23 09:04

That's an urban legend about the Nova and simply isn't true

  • niki.wessels - 2012-05-15 17:29

Surprising no-one mentioned Tata. I'm a bit superstitious about driving a car named Goodbye.

And Yaris too - what is that supposed to be?

  • Gus - 2012-05-16 04:15

Ford released a model in Mexico called the Nova. Eventualy someone realised in Spanish "nova" meant "no go". Don't know how many of these cars they sold!

      Mike Bundy - 2013-07-23 09:16

Your Nova story is an urban legend. It was Chevrolet, not Ford for a start. The cars sold rather well around the world under the Nova name from 1962 until 1979 - hardly a failure.
