A 19-year old man was killed in Elsie's River in Cape Town when a taxi hit his scooter from behind, Western Cape police said on Sunday.
"[The man] was driving on a scooter in Halt Road, when he was hit from behind by a minibus taxi. The youth was flung from the scooter, " said ER 24 spokesman André Visser.
The taxi allegedly drove away after the accident.
Paramedics performed CPR but the man was declared dead on the scene.
Visser said bystanders who had witnessed the accident wrote down the registration number of the taxi and gave the information to police.
Police spokesman Captain Pierre Jordaan, said one person had been arrested but did not immediately have any more information on the incident.
