LONDON, England - A thrifty squirrel almost destroyed a car by deciding it was a suitable place to park hundreds of nuts.
When John Gold, 59, took his Opel Astra to his local Bosch agent in Warwick, central England, he was not prepared for what was eventually found. When the bonnet was lifted to repair a leaking radiator it was quicky noticed that the air-cleaner was stuffed full of peanuts.
“I couldn’t believe what the garage was telling me," Gold said. “There were hundreds of nuts stashed in there! My mother-in-law regularly puts food out for the birds next to where I park so the squirrel must have taken them from there and hidden them in the air box."
MORE TROUBLES...
It's not the first time nature has had a go at Gold's car. Not long ago he had a bill for the equivalent of R16 000 to replace high-tension cables after a rat chewed up them up. And last week Wheels24 reported how a spider caused a monster Mazda recall.
Jason Perry, manager of the Bosch franchise, said: “In 42 years of working I've never seen anything like that air filter. We lifted the bonnet to investigate the problem but weren't expecting to find a hoard of nuts. We were surprised that the car was still running - the nuts were completely blocking the filter."
