Johannesburg radio DJ Gareth Cliff has been sentenced to six months' jail or a R10 000 fine for speeding.
Pretoria magistrate Desmond Nair did not suspend Cliff's driving licence; it was a first offence and he had pleaded guilty to contravening the Road Traffic Act.
Nair said: "I cannot draw a distinction between such embarrassment or reputational damage that he may have suffered as compared to any other person who would appear before the court.
"I do, however, attach significant weight to the fact that you pleaded guilty, which is a sign of remorse."
'GRIEVOUS MISTAKE'
Cliff was arrested on March 6, 2012, after being caught at 182km/h in a 120km/h zone on the R21 in Lyttelton, near Pretoria. He was later released on bail. He appeared in court on March 7 but the case was postponed because there was an inquiry into whether his licence should be suspended.
Cliff's lawyer read out a statement in which Cliff said: "It was a mistake of a grievous nature which vexes me much."
