Sexy biker skirts the law

New York - There are few things for which a pedal-cyclist might be stopped by the police - riding dangerously, perhaps, or without lights after sunset or the wrong way along a one-way street.

But for wearing a skirt...?

A Dutch tourist in the Big Apple was stopped over by a New York police officer for "cycling while wearing inappropriate attire".

Jasmijn Rijcken, general manager of Dutch bicycle company Vanmoof, was in the city that never sleeps to attend the Amsterdam Bike Show when she was stopped by a policeman for wearing a skirt. Officer Spoil Sport claimed her skirt was distracting drivers and demanded to see her ID.

IS IT A DRESS CODE?

""He said I was distracting car drivers and that it was dangerous, I shouldn't wear these clothes on a bike," Rijcken said.

Fearing she might have to leave the country, Rijcken apologised and said she wasn't aware of the city’s dress code. To which Officer Spoil Sport replied: "I decide what's a dangerous situation."

She was ultimately allowed to ride off, without a fine, and returned to her hotel to change.

Joanna Virello, organiser of the New Amsterdam Bike Show, is planning a ride for cyclists who ride in skirts as a show of support.

Judging from the image attached to our story, the leggy blonde might be distracting to guys in general but to be punished for wearing a skirt on a bike? Perhaps it was just a New York cop wanting a closer look and flirting with what passes in the NYPD as a pick-up line.
