R5m cars burn in N2 truck fire

VW Polo, BMW and S-Class Mercedes-Benz cars were destroyed on the N2 near Mthata on Saturday when the vehicle transporter carrying them caught fire.

A spokesman estimated the damage at R4-million to R5-million.

Eastern Cape health department spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said: "The truck caught fire so the driver stopped and tried to extinguish it but the flames were too much."

Yet the drama didn't end there. "The driver of a car coming from East London lost control while trying to avoid the truck and crashed into it."

But there was some good news. "It iwas a miracle that there were no serious injuries," Kupelo added.
