Porsche pumps it up with Black

Porsche’s Boxster baby is growing up as the automaker reveals a more powerful Black Edition of the roadster.

The Black uses the same 3.4-litre flat-six boxer engine with direct injection seen in the Boxster S. Here, however, output has been wound up to 239kW at a giddy 7200rpm, while the peak torque figure is also up by 10Nm to 370Nm at 4750rpm.

It’s quicker than the Boxster S, too. With do-it-yourself shifts through the standard six-speed manual transmission, the Black Boxster covers the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.2sec or 5.1 if the car has the optional double-clutch transmission. Add the Sports Chrono Package Plus and anothe 0.2sec will be wiped off the time.

SPORTIER

The Boxster's engine configuration also allows for a lower centre of gravity to complement the car's chassis and allow even more dynamic latitude. Weight-saving measures include lightweight alloy rims.

ALL BLACK: True to the black theme, the cabin of this limited edition Boxster is awash with devilish black trim.

Concerning its appearance, the beauty is in the Black Edition’s details with its model name on the car’s rump, embossing on the side of the canvas roof, roll-over bars, side air intakes and twin tailpipes all finished in black.

This is continued in the cabin with door sills featuring the words “Black Edition”, the three-spoked steering wheel trimmed in black leather, black trim and upholstery and the dials on the instrument cluster all finished in black. A bespoke badge on the cubbyhole also identifies this Boxster as a Black Ediiton.

The Porsche Boxster S Black Edition arrives in South Africa within the next few months. Just 987 units will be made available worldwide.
