Police tractor on the prowl

Combating crime is never easy, especially when you have to go cross-country. Police in Lincolnshire, UK have taken a farmyard approach to combating crime in rural areas – a tractor.

This John Deere 66330 was given a police makeover, complete with police livery and flashing blue lights. The idea for the “blue-light tractor” came from Chief Inspector Phil Vickers and the tractor was donated by John Deere.

Vickers said: "The tractor looks like a bit of fun but its purpose is to capture the public's attention and deliver the message that we take rural crime very seriously."

Richard Hezlet, the National Farmers' Union regional director, said: "Farm tractors and implements seem to be at the top of thieves' shopping lists at the moment so the NFU is delighted to support Lincolnshire Police in its drive to make farmers aware of how they can better protect their farms."

Cops chasing thieves in tractors across the countryside? Could be the scene of the world’s slowest car chase…
