Outa's Duvenhage quits Avis

Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) chairman Wayne Duvenage has resigned from his day job as Avis Rent-a-Car's chief executive.

"Yes, I can confirm that," Duvenhage said by phone. "I will continue in my role as chairman of Outa but my relationship with Avis is strong as it has ever been.

"This is a decision I have been contemplating for some months and it's time for change - I'm a believer in change."

July 31, 2012 will be Duvenage's last day at Avis.

The Gauteng e-tolling project was recently halted after Outa filed an urgent application with the High Court in Pretoria.

The court granted an interdict preventing the SA National Roads Agency Limited from levying or collecting e-tolls pending the outcome of a judicial review.
