Nurburgring record car for sale

Want to own a car with real Nurburgring bragging rights? Well, the current Nordschleife record holder is up for sale.

The selfsame Radical SR8LM which bested all comers with a 6:48 time around the world’s most forbidding racetrack earlier this year needs a new home.

Boasting virtually no roadcar credibility, the SR8LM is geared for the singular reason of everywhere with apocalyptic urgency. Peculiarly, you are allowed to stick a number plate on it.

Powertec engine is essentially two Hayabusa heads and slightly bigger blocks joined by a common sub-assembly spinning a flat-plane crank. Looks mellow, goes like mad all the way to 10 500r/min...

Biker logic?

Powered by an impeccably engineered (and radically oversquare) 2.8l V8 producing 338kW, it’s fair to say the SR8LM shifts a bit, especially considering it weighs only 680kg. In fact the SL8LM has more in common with superbikes than supercars.

Furthermore the car features double-wishbone suspension at each wheelcorner and a transaxle, six-speed sequential transmission.

A Quaife RQ2 slippy diff at the rear should ensure there is a moment serenity before the rear end breaks into a long slide.

If you want to be the owner of this rather mad, yet significantly historic car, it can be yours for only £99 850 – fully road registered no less. Which means you can drive it to work every day - which is rather nice.

So, if you have some spare cash burning a whole in your pocket and a good connection in the UK to seal the deal for you, it could be boxed, shipped and delivered to sunny South African just in time for Christmas…
