Nissan's Juke boxed for SA

Nissan's new Juke is no joke - it's building strong sales momentum before its South African debut.

The Juke has sold 32 000 units in the short time (since October 2010) it has been available to customers in Europe, with Nissan expecting to record 120 000 sales in the first year of production.

The car is built on Nissan’s B platform and uses outlandish styling inherited from the bigger Qashqai and combined with five-door hatchback practicality. It's become a strong contender in the fashion-conscious small SUV market.

ONE FOR ALL APPLICATIONS

Five versions of the Juke are available, four petrol and a diesel, with power outputs ranging from 81kW to 140kW driving the front or all four wheels through a manual gearbox or XTRONIC CV transmission.

At the top of the range is an all-wheel drive version powered by an all-new, turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine with direct injection. It uses the latest generation All-Mode 4x4i with torque vectoring for greater agility and less understeer.

Equipment grades follow the established Nissan practice: entry-level Visia, mid-grade Acenta and range-topping Tekna. As well as ESP and six crash bags, standard equipment on all grades includes aircon and a CD/radio with a connection for external audio sources.

QASHQAI'S LITTLE BOET: There's no doubt about the heritage of Nissan's upcoming Juke crossover.

On higher grades, equipment can include automatic aircon, a rear-view parking camera, satnav and, a new development, the Nissan dynamic control system that lets the driver choose the car’s dynamic performance through a sports and eco mode.

South African customers can expect the Juke to become available towards the end of 2011 with 1.6-litre fuel-injected (81kW) and turbo (140kW) power at first.
