Nissan tech to beat the bends

Nissan has taken the joy of driving to another level, by tapping into the car's navigation system to allow for safer tackling of treacherous twisties.

Using the navigation, engine, braking and steering systems, the "navigation-cooperative intelligent pedal" can help the driver to brake as the car enters a corner based on real time navigational information.

Using this information, the system moves the accelerator pedal upward and once the driver has lifted his foot off the pedal, activates the brakes.

Another new feature is the "active stability assist" that senses the driver's needs based on steering input, and braking and acceleration patterns. The system then controls the braking and torque application to each of the wheels for a smooth response.

Both systems will be introduced on the new Fuga luxury sedan due for release in Japan later this year.
