Development of the next generation Bugatti Veyron is said to commence soon and the principles of progress dictate it should be even more breathtaking than its predecessor.

According to Auto Express, the car has been given the green light by parent company Volkswagen and should from 2014 become a favourite accessory of the supermonied.

Although the Veyron successor’s styling will be evolutionary, it is expected to be lighter and quicker than the car it replaces.

FAMILY TIES

Sister Lamborghini has apparently been tasked with perfecting the carbon composite technology that will be used to create the car's monocoque, certain body panels and some interior trim.

The next Veyron will probably also be powered by the quad-turbo eight-litre W16 currently doing duty in the Veyron. However, in this iteration, Auto Express suggests power in excess of 890kW and a crushing 1490Nm of torque, similar to that being churned out by the engine in the Veyron Super Sports edition.

This might will be shoved to all four wheels through a revised seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Which might be a good thing, considering the next Veyron’s 435km/h top speed and 0-100km/h time of less than 2.5sec probably won’t give its pilots much time to consider snap changes…

Some may question the sanity of such a car but we think it remains four-wheeled entertainment from the top drawer.

Let the speculation begin!
