New i30 to debut in Frankfurt

Hyundai will unveil the its next i30 model at the 2011 Frankfurt International Motor Show on September 13.

The i30 current in South Africa was launched here only in March, 2010.

The i30 was designed at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and is said to represent the company’s distinctive design DNA, "fluidic sculpture".

HEXAGONAL GRILLE

According to the South Korean automaker, the "fluidic sculpture" ethos uses flowing lines inspired by nature and modern architecture to give a constant three-dimensional presence and was introduced as the Hyundai ix-onic concept at the 2009 Geneva auto show.

Since then the design theme has become used across new Hyundai models.

The i30 is recognisable through its hexagonal grille which has become Hyundai’s signature "face". The grille is touched by jewel-like headlights.

A Hyundai spokesman said: "We intend to launch the new i30 in South Africa in 2012 but mass-production of the right-hand drive derivatives will only start towards the middle of that year so we expect a local launch in the third or fourth quarter of 2012."

The pricing will be determined closer to the launch date.
