Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the expansion of its CLS range with the announcement that the CLS Shooting Brake will go into production.
Dr. Dieter Zetsche, head of Mercedes-Benz Cars announced this week that the CLS derivative will be built at the company’s Sindelfingen plant from 2012.
Currently the plant, which is the biggest Mercedes-Benz manufacturing plant in the world, produces the C-Class sedan, E-Class sedan and estate, S-Class, SLS AMG, and CLS and CL coupes. The plant also builds Maybach and armoured Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
The coupé-based Shooting Break concept received a rapturous welcome when it premiered at the Auto China show in April, 2010.
The show car’s proportions are clearly related to a coupé, with its long bonnet, narrow greenhouse and dramatically sloping roof.
The new model will share its production line with the CLS and E-Class sedan.
