Merc gets smart with iPad sales

Mercedes-Benz UK has launched an iPad brochure application - an interactive experience that compliments traditional printed brochures with a more engaging way to experience the C-Class Coupe.

The automaker says this new approach to customer engagement, with all brochure and price list information combined, enables prospective buyers to experience more of the C-Class Coupé design, performance and technology.

The 'app' carries a wealth of content, Mercedes adds, and uses the iPad's capabilities to entertain as much as inform.

The app, unlike a printed brochure, can also be updated.

QUICK COMPARISONS

David George, Mercedes-Benz Cars' marketing director in the UK, said: "We live in a culture that’s almost always online and is used to rich media experiences. Our new app really brings the C-Class Coupe to life."

The model lines section shows off the new car while letting the user compare all engine and trim combinations from the Sport to the C63 AMG. A slider function compares details from three angles; there's an image gallery and a driving video for each variant; a configurator displays the exterior and interior choices.

Explaining features such as the cars' "intelligent" light system, for instance, become easy with video and images, and the interactive part of the app is split into three: Design, Performance, Technology. Each section has three or four topics to explore:

HIGH-TECH INFORMATION: Seems there's no limit to the amount of detail buried in the C-Class app.

Design supplies information on the sunroof, compares model lines and offers the configurator.

Performance explores engine options, the dynamic handling package and BlueEFFICIENCY - fuel-saving technology ’s standard on every car.

Technology looks at multimedia, safety features and the driving assistance package and demonstrates the lights system

The "read more" section has all the information of the printed brochure and there's a GPS-assisted "find a dealer" function.

The app is available from the iTunes APP store or through the Mercedes-Benz UK public website. South Africa does not have a similar app, but why not download it anyway? - the data on UK products is very similar to that available here. And, we're told, Merc SA is looking into the project for local distribution.
