Merc and Mitsubishi split in SA

LANCER TO THE RESCUE?: Having moved away from its agreement with Mercedes-Benz locally, there is now the possibility of exciting new products from Mitsubishi.

Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishi have divorced after a 16-year marriage in South Africa.

Mitsubishi Motor Corporation has agreed to a distribution agreement for Imperial Holdings to take over local distribution of the Japanese brand’s products from July 1, 2011.

The agreement with Mitsubishi Motors will allow Imperial to import and wholesale Mitsubishi products such as the Triton bakkie, Pajero, Pajero Sport and Outlander SUV's and the Lancer sedans.

NO LONGER IGNORED?

Evaluations are under way to explore product additions to the current model range. Plainly, Mitsubishi should cease to be the criminally ignored entity it was under previous management.

The distribution will be held by Imperial Holdings under the chairmanship of Osman Arbee, who is also the chairman of the Automotive Retail Division of Imperial.

"As an automotive industry leader, Imperial Holdings has the infrastructure and expertise to take the Mitsubishi brand successfully into the future," Arbee said.
