Toyota has confirmed that the car shown in images leaked on the internet is its next Prius .

No further details were provided along with the announcement made on the manufacturer's North American blog.

However, new Prius is expected to be marginally smaller, but with better interior space and fuel economy, than its predecessor.

More details will be provided when the car is officially introduced at the Detroit Show in January 2009.
