Daimler is said to be considering a tie-up with luxury automaker Aston Martin to save its uber-luxury Maybach cars but cutting the brand completely remains a very viable option.
Maybach’s future has been the subject of discussion at Daimler for a long time and Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche confirmed earlier in June, 2011 that the German automaker had been in discussions with British marque Aston Martin.
However, Automotive News reports that Daimler is also considering turning Maybach into a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz. Like performance offshoot AMG, the Maybach name would then be attached to the range-topping versions of premium Mercedes.
AND THE ALTERNATIVE...
The fate of Maybach was originally meant to be revealed on July 1, 2011 but the decision has been delayed until a Daimler supervisory board meeting later in the month.
The news from Germany then might be simple: Shut down come end July, 2011, may just be that Daimler executives have elected to close down the Maybach brand.
