Man gives Audi R8 as a tip

2010-01-14 16:09

Car guards raise mixed opinions among drivers. They're handy when it comes to exiting a crowded parking spot but at the same time, they can be a pest for your change because they 'helped' you reverse park.

Whatever your stance, a businessman in Cape Town felt very generous on Thursday and left two car guards a healthy tip - his R1.4m Audi R8.

According to the Cape Argus, a businessman reportedly handed over the keys to his Audi R8 to two car guards working at the Cable Car station on Table Mountain.

Fabrice Munqanga-Mungala and Desiré Shima were given the car and police have confirmed that all the paper work is in order.

To add further intrigue to the businessman's generosity, there is even a sticker on the bonnet with the message 'A future for all'. Now that's one expensive tip.

I don't think people realise that this isn't about the money. Everyone is so caught up in money. If everyone was happy enough to give up their monetary items we would be a better planet. Rob Taylor knows something we don't!!

You shall reap what you sow. I have some experience with this, and the Bible is quite clear regarding this as well... a simple principle that would do us all well do keep in mind. Give away more (to those that need it) and you shall prosper... this goes for everyone, not just the wealthy.

That was a very generous gift for people that need it most. Here I work myself to a standstill to get +- R150000 to built some 1 bedroom flats on my plot to generate some income with 2010 soccer to make a better living - so Mr taylor seeing that you are a property broker how about some help? Don't want it for free will pay back.

People place too much value on material things. There is such a thing as too much. A car is just a car no matter what you drive. MOney is just a means no more. You are NOT a better or more powerfull person for having a lot. Having a lot just means having a lot more responsibilities which leads to NOTHING. Sooner or later one realizes that in the business of life money and material things only hinder the possibility of attaining true happiness and contentment. Personally i think this man knows something that a lot of people do not. I can only wish him well.

I think its great for someone to give a gift like that but i also think abit silly as the money they make wont pay for the petrol on that car at all. I drive an slk55amg and i complain about petrol so im sure they will have to sell it and split the money. Hopefully they will buy themselves a nice house or even just have money for groceries and school fees for their kids if they have. I know and understand all the comments you other readers have made but i think for someone to hand out something like that is a really good hearted thing to do. i dont even think its about how much is given but just the thought of giving. just shows you still, South Africans are so friendly and even though we have so much crime here, ITS STILL AN AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY.wishing all you readers a fantastic 2010. may it be a great and safe one for us all

    1/16/2010 3:51 PM
Yah Neh!!!it does not make sense at all. Did he consult with them (for info/details in re: registration of the car) before handing over the car keys and are they both registered owners of the car? and what are the conditions for driving the car? because we can only have one car driver. Who takes it home and for how long etc. we do not want to see them guards fighting over the vehicle...this is a joke right?

unbelievable i must say to give away to what many seems as allot to the business man it was his way off thanking the world for all he has received in his lifetime,we all come into this world with nothing and will with nothing but the joys and smiles we leave on people's faces before we exit this world will remain forever as the gesture that set us apart from our predecessers,WELL DONE,I'M PROUD TO BE A SOUTH AFRICAN TODAY AS WE STILL HAVE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHOM CARE MORE FOR OTHERS THAN THEMSELVES :-)the gift off giving shall be the ultimate gift which will allow us salvation
    Lauryan Ritzlmayr
    1/15/2010 11:20 PM
i think this is a wonderful gesture! YAY to the guys who got the car and well done to the guy who gave it to them - whatever his reasons are! Nditsheni Nthulane : What on earth are you on about? What gives you the right to make such sweeping comments so lightly? Or do you know this because it's what YOU do??!! I known many people in SA, rich, poor, middle class who freely support disadvantaged communities, people etc right throughout the year, and not just financially - even giving their personal time and resources to help others. So i suggest you keep quiet unless you can prove your statement with statistics and actual evidence. That kind of silly comment causes all sorts of rifts in a society that really doesn't need it.

The more you give, the more you get: So Logic. These guys stands under the sun for days helping out to reverse and looking after our cars, I don't think giving them a R8 might be a problem. What you don't need anymore can be a lifesaver for the guy next door, give give and give again!!!
    nditsheni Ha- Rabali
    1/15/2010 3:20 PM
I think it must be Donald Trump, maybe he was in the country for business and bought the car cash to cruise around & now he was lazy to sell the car. who else in SA can just give an R8 just like that.
    MANDY
    1/15/2010 3:10 PM
After all said and done the idea of giving is great, but with recieving has greater consequence as we all know and by the comments made. To do this to someone means that either you have a sick sense of humor or you down right diabolical. There are so many people who do deserve better. I'd rather have given it to someone who knows what to do with it. And if you are reading all these messages, Here's a message for you- Giving is a gift not to be taken lightly - I hope all is well with your world and this is not a cop out. Peace.

Imagine your whole life your work protecting cars and yet are never able to actually afford one. I don't think the gesture was completely thoughtless. Giving two working poor people an opportunity to enjoy something that could never afford and could only dream about is admirable... R1.4mil is Euros 130k. There are people in SA that make that in a day. If they choose to share it - SA will simply be a safer and less unequal society.

At Jaco- what exactly has Helen Zille done to make you say that? You idiot! She fights corruption on a daily basis and gives her life to make sure that things run comfortably in the Cape. What are you on, man there are stupid people out there. BIG up to the giver, may we all learn from this.

    1/15/2010 11:18 AM
Why can't people just be happy for the guys that got the car, who cares what they do with it, that's not the point. I'm sure that this event will change both of their lives for the better. And why make stupid comments about BMW and Audi, does BMW even make a super car??? NO they don't. On a side note - I wish I was one of those car guards, 1.4mil would go down a treat. :-)

I saw this vehicle on the front page of the news paper yesterday. That Audi R8 is not worth R1.4 Million, that R8 is the V10 version which is worth about R2.1 Million. Something smells fishy about this whole saga.

I still think the guy did an exceptional job..one like Virgo -ct can say its stupid but to me, the guy can really put everything on a silver platter for them.I mean sell it and buy them bakkies.the guys must think along those lines for themselves. Look by the car he drove, the guy has a lot of work in his palms/alot of things to attend to.

You're all just jealous that you don't have that kind of money. Apparently the car was fully paid off, so no catch to the give away. He also gave them each R3000 cash. I recon he's getting divorced and doesn't want his wife to get everything.
    Sbuda-Lo
    1/15/2010 9:25 AM

    1/15/2010 9:04 AM
Now lets get serious the guy, is going through a divorce and his wife was going to get the car so he gave it away to screw her over. Maybe he believes in kharma and when his "ex" wife takes him for all his cash someone will give him an R8 as a tip.

    Angua
    1/15/2010 8:45 AM
Point taken about the money being donated or rather give bakkies etc. But would we have raised an eyebrow at an anonymous donor to a charity? Or bakkies eventually being used as taxi's? Good for you Audi-gR8 guy! Pay it forward?
    peter
    1/15/2010 8:38 AM
So then I saw on the news last night that the car guards took an angle grinder and made a hole in the bonnet for people to throw in money.....no kidding!!!
    Clinton
    1/15/2010 8:01 AM
After reading the article in the Argus, I was left feeling happy for the guys and somewhat bewildered at the same time. Surely it would've been a better idea to take the same value as the R8 and purchase a few bakkies to give people to establish small businesses for the guys and a few others etc. An R8 is hardly a vehicle equiped to help the community and to do good deeds with. In the article it was stated that the two guys must use the vehicle for good deeds - all their tips are going to be used to keep the R8 running. His generosity is well appreciated, but maybe a few more minutes of thought should've gone into it.
