Kids rate mom the better driver

Kids in the UK apparently prefer their mothers’ driving as close to two thirds said they were happier and more relaxed with mom at the wheel.

The survey polled close to 1300 children aged five to 16 and revealed that, according to the children, moms were more considerate to other drivers, less likely to suffer road rage and also less likely to weave through traffic.

Roughly 60% of the children also said they were more relaxed while their mothers were driving.

Their fathers drove too fast, were more aggressive and lost their temper quicker while driving.

NEW BATTLE OF THE SEXES

More than half of the youngsters polled said their mom talked constantly to keep them entertained in the car, while dads seemed more interested in getting from A to B as quickly as possible.

While the children admitted mom was more likely to stall the car or become flustered while parking, she remains the first choice to drive them to school or to a friend’s house. She also has a “nicer” car.

David Williams, CEO of GEM Motoring Assist, the insurance company who commissioned the survey said: “It is clear from the results that a sensitive and relaxed driver has the most calming effect on young passengers.”

AVOID LEGACY OF POOR DRIVING

Williams added: “It’s important that children don’t see their parents driving too fast or too aggressively. That could have a long-term effect on what they saw as “the norm”. There was a general belief that children exposed to poor driving could become poor drivers themselves.

Williams believed: “Wherever you’re going, allow plenty of time so you don’t have to rush. It is important to make your kids feel safe in the car and it is vital your children are safe in the car. Not sticking to the rules and driving too fast put your kids in a dangerous situation and could result in a serious accident.”
