Toyota is no longer the best-selling Asian brand in Europe.
The world’s biggest automaker has been supplanted by South Korea’s Hyundai/Kia alliance.
During the first 10 months of 2010, Toyota and Lexus have seen their market share fall by 17% in Europe. At the same time Hyundai and Kia have gained four percent of the European vehicle market.
Tallying the numbers, Toyota/Lexus have sold 511 754 cars in Europe so far in 2010, Hyundai/Kia 521 369.
The South Koreans intend to become the best-selling Asian brand in the US next, a goal that may be a touch more difficult to achieve considering Toyota’s popularity in the North American market.
Total Hyundai sales in the US are up by 21% so far in 2010 - perhaps a sign of things to come.
