Hot diesel Auris

accreditation
It's a new year and Toyota has dispatched its Auris' dowdy image in a sporting fashion with the introduction of a range-topping version dubbed the SR180.

A 2.2-litre D-4D engine has been shoehorned into the Auris bay, developing 130 kW and a peak torque figure of 400 Nm from as low as 2 000 r/min. The unit is mated with a six-speed manual transmission.

Acceleration from 0 - 100 km/h is covered in 8.1 seconds.

A lightweight double wishbone rear suspension has been tweaked to meet this model's performance demands, while vehicle stability control and traction control are offered as standard tools.

This Auris looks the part, too, with Toyota Motorsport providing a lowered suspension and a new tailgate spoiler. Furthermore, dark-tinted rear privacy glass and five-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels up the hatchback's style quotient.

Inside the cabin, equipment is also of a high level. This includes dual zone air conditioning, auto lights, rain sensing wipers and cruise control.
