We reported earlier in 2011 that Top Gear anchorman Jeremy Clarkson outraged some viewers by describing Mexicans as "lazy", "feckless" and "flatulent".
Now he's landed himself in hot water yet again with another cheeky quip.
In a recent newspaper column, the Top Gear guy commented that his new flat-screen TV’s eco feature made the screen as dim as comedian Lenny Henry.
Clarkson wrote: "Like so many things in life these days, my new LG flat-screen TV has an eco feature. You can choose how much energy you would like it to consume. Very little, a medium amount or tons. But a word of warning: if you turn the feature on, the screen dims so much every programme looks like it’s being presented by Lenny Henry in a cave."
RACISM GREEN LIGHT
Judging from the image attached to the top right of this story, you could see how Clarkson’s remarks, though intended as humour, could upset sensitive readers.
Race equality campaigner Lee Jasper added that Clarkson’s remarks could spark racist slurs.
“People take it as a green light and think ‘Well, if Clarkson can have a joke at the expense of someone’s race, then so can I’.”
Jasper added that Clarkson was naturally funny and that he did not need to resort to racism.
