Google street view in your Audi?

Audi will introduce its new connect services with the launch of the new A4 later in March 2012. Audi connect includes navigation via Google Earth Imagery and Street View, as well as integral WLAN hotspot for internet access.

Apart from the new A4, the system will be available in South Africa in the A5, A6, A7, A8 and Q7. Connect services are planned for the Audi A1 and Q3 at a later stage.

The connect services allow drivers to search for points of interest on Google using the multimedia interface, check news feeds or call up the latest weather forecast.

PASSENGER INTERNET ACCESS

Data transfer is by means of the UMTS module of the Bluetooth, which has to be ordered as an option for the MMI navigation plus.

The WLAN hotspot is a first for Audi and enables front and rear passengers to access information and e-mails. Access to the internet is via the roof aerial, through the vehicles's own UMTS module.

Thanks to the integrated W-LAN hotspot, up to eight mobile devices can be linked to the Internet and rear passengers have full internet access when the vehicle is in motion. Drivers will be able to use Google Street View as a new online service, and will be able to view the navigation destination on the MMI display.
