Girl-power Mustang to go on show

A joint effort between Ford and the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) earlier in 2012 began a unique venture for a modified Pony car - the first Sema Mustang Build Powered by Women project.

Three proposals were put forward and the public was asked to vote for which design should be built. The winning design, called “High Gear” and based on the current Mustang, was done by Ford engineer Jennifer Seely.

The project was aimed at highlighting the role women play in the custom-car world and Seely's winning design will be built by an all-female team of volunteers from the Sema Businesswomen's Network. The team needs to get cracking to make their SEMA show debut as they only have eight weeks to complete their model.

MUSTANG IN A LITTLE BLACK DRESS

Seely said she drew her inspiration from jewellery, couture clothing and architecture for her "High Gear" 2013 Mustang GT.

Her proposals call for the vehicle to be finished in satin black with a subtle body kit and gold chromed accents throughout the exterior and interior. The engineers will also have to modify the power train, tweaked suspension and sound system.

Doug Evans, executive vice-president of Source Interlink Media, a partner in the project, said: "The concept selected by everyone who voted is amazing. It will be very exciting to see the vehicle transformed in just eight weeks by the dedicated group of women participating in the project."

The finished Mustang will premiere at the 2012 SEMA Show from October 30 - November 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The car will be auctioned on eBay in aid of the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund.
