LOCAL CLUB GETS NOSTALGIC: Alfa aficionados in kwaZulu-Natal celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Giulia with a special event held recently in Pietermaritzburg.

In 1962, one of the world’s most advanced and best-loved sports sedans, the Alfa Romeo Giulia, was launched and this Italian ride turns 50 in 2012.

Tributes for this iconic model are being held around the world and we asked Wheels24 readers to share their thoughts and images of the Giulia.

COLIN CAMP of the Alfa Romeo Club of Natal said the club commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Giulia with a special event held at the annual Pietermaritzburg Cars in the Park, held on May 20, 2012.

CHANNELING ROY HESKETH

In addition to members' more modern cars, Giulia models were gathered together as a separate display that included:
1964 TI Super and Berlina sedans
1964 - 1976 Bertone Sprint, GTV and Junior coupes
1968 - 1983 Pininfarina Spiders

The club display consisted of Sprints and Supers typical of those that raced at the local Roy Hesketh circuit. Also seen at the event were Race and Regularity Berlinas, current Historics and Trofeo cars.

Cars in the Park organisers chose a “Racing in Pietermaritzburg” theme and the Alfa Romeo Club of Natal was a runner-up in the best stand award.
