GT-R price, specs confirmed

The most exciting performance car to be marketed locally in years will retail at R1 175 000 when it goes on sale in September.

Nissan giant-killing GT-R (the R35 Skyline for traditionalists) has now been price and delivery confirmed.

South African Nissan acolytes will have option on two trim levels - “Premium Edition” and “Black Edition”. Black Edition cars will have black wheels (no kidding), red leather seat insets and detailing on door handles.

A further boon for local buyers is that all South African GT-Rs will be technically certified 2010 versions.

This means power is up from 353- to 357kW, new dampers are employed at each wheel corner and the twin-clutch transmission features recalibrated operational software, which should allay reliability fears.

For the rest, you should know the details by now – fearsomely advanced all-wheel drive, 3.8l twin-turbo V6, six-speed DCT, and a nearly infinite landscape of digitally enhanced dynamic adjustability.

Oh, and it has initiated the 21st century greatest car grudge match with Porsche, besting 911 Turbo Nurburgring lap times with alarming regularity…

Quite the car then.

The GT-R price includes a 4-year/50 000km service plan and 3-year/100 000km warrantee.

If ever you felt the unrighteous desire to cash in your kids university saving plan annuities, now would be an apt time.
