From 2009, a flex-fuel Dodge Journey MPV will be sold as part of Chrysler SA's regular line-up.
Designed to run on conventional unleaded, an E85 ethanol mix or a combination of the two, the 2009 Dodge Journey 2.7 V6 will be the first vehicle to offer this flex-fuel capability.
The fuel mixture is detected by sensors in the system that signal the engine control unit to adjust the fuel injection rate and spark timing for optimal performance, fuel economy, and emissions.
Flex-fuel models will be identified via the Flex-fuel badge on the bootlid and the yellow fuel filler neck and cap.
And while Chrysler SA concedes that there is no official E85 fuel supplier in South Africa, "certain local distributors will begin offering the products in the near future".
