Volkswagen has released the first design sketch of its new mid-sized sedan. The Passat replacement is due in 2012.

The manufacturer plans to build 150 000 units annually at its Chattanooga, Tennessee plant in the US when it opens in early 2011.

The new model, which is said will be slightly larger than the current Passat, will be sold mostly in North America.
